Group Summary:
Avahan, the Indian AIDS Initiative of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is a 10-year (2004-13), large-scale HIV prevention program with three primary goals: 1) build an HIV prevention model at scale in India and demonstrate epidemic impact; 2) catalyze others to take over and replicate the model; and 3) foster and disseminate learnings on scaled HIV prevention within India and worldwide. Avahan serves populations most at risk of infection in the four southern states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra , and Andhra Pradesh and the two northeastern states of Nagaland and Manipur. Avahan aims to reduce HIV incidence in high risk populations (female sex workers (FSW) and their clients, high risk-men who have sex with men / transgenders (HR-MSM/T), injection drug users (IDU) together with an estimated 5 million men at risk.
Skills and competencies
* 10+ years professional work experience in a variety of progressively more responsible roles in human resources in a global organization. * Experience working in a India office of a global organization is preferred. * Demonstrated skills in application of HR principles and laws of India . * Demonstrated ability to oversee multiple disciplines within an organization is required. * Demonstrated ability in handling complex people relationships, change management * Ability to develop close working relationships with a broad spectrum of employees, partners, vendors. * Comfortable presenting factual data in order to influence and support management decision making. Ability to speak truth to power and to push back on direct management. * Supervisory and management experience required. Preferably experience in managing in a highly matrixed organization. * Knowledge of headquarters business operations and experience in navigating in complex organizational environments to obtain information, resources needed to achieve results. * Ability to travel to Seattle , Washington a minimum of twice a year.Warm regards
