Position Overview

Our client, a major CPG company, seeks an experienced consultant/program manager to lead cross-functional teams (primarily Marketing and Sales, but also Quality and Supply Chain) in developing and executing a 3 year program to increase gross margins by 3 percentage points. Focus areas include: mix improvement, price/yield improvement, reduction in slow and obsolete inventory, and cost improvement.

Specific responsibilities include:
• Develop and maintain roadmaps showing progress vs. goals for all product lines related to price, cost, mix, and inventory improvement metrics

• Aggregate product roadmaps into a program view and share on a monthly and quarterly basis with program sponsors and corporate executives. Highlight issues/roadblocks. Establish priorities to ensure the project pipeline is strong and that large, individual projects are on schedule and will deliver the promised financial benefits

• Schedule and conduct core team and product manager meetings — share actions from executive reviews. Encourage members to engage on projects and develop a pipeline of ideas

• Monitor individual projects (about 3 dozen large ones and 200 smaller ones) — ensure that project leads update status in the corporate tracking and reporting system, showing accurate delivery times, financial costs and benefits, and status

• Engage proactively in key/“big bang” projects to ensure attainment of initiative goals

• Collaborate with team members from manufacturing, supply chain, finance, sales, marketing, R&D, quality assurance, and regulatory to plan and lead brainstorming sessions to evaluate opportunities

• Share information with Latin American counterparts

Skills/Requirements/Capabilities
• Multiple years of CPG industry experience

• Seasoned program manager

• Experience leading gross profitability improvement initiatives in one or more areas: price improvement, mix improvement, slow/obsolete inventory reduction, and cost improvement

• Ability to lead cross-functional teams and deliver results in a complex matrix environment

• Strong analytical and quantitative skills

• Excellent leadership and communications skills

• Ability to lead/coordinate new opportunity brainstorming/workshops

• PMP certification a plus

• Manufacturing experience a plus

• Experience leading new product launches a plus

Project Start Date and Duration
• Start date: mid to late November
• Duration: 6 months with strong potential of extending through 2012

Project Location and On-Site Requirements
• Location: New Jersey – preferably a local candidate
• On-site requirements: 4 to 5 days/week
